Reflection

-During my secondary school, I learnt English by reading textbooks, memorizing vocabulary, and doing exercises, and due to this practice, my English listening and speaking skills have been weak for a long time. I downloaded Voscreen by accident, then I found it very interesting. It doesn't even have a showy user interface, and it doesn't have advertisements so far. Whenever I tap on this app, it plays video clips from various well-known movies or TV dramas immediately. Every video clip is a little test, or, a game for me, thus I love spending time on this app and my listening improves again and again. Additionally, the choices it provides are not the same as the content of the video clips. That is to say, it purposely replaces some words with synonyms or paraphrases the whole sentence. I guess I also enriched my vocabulary at the same time.

-I always assert that improving speaking is improving listening. As explained in the video clip called "Schwa", "a piece of cake" is pronounced as "a piece a cake" in oral English, then, if I don't know this rule in advance, I may not identify what is between "a" and "cake" in listening tests, because "piece a" sounds like one word. Understanding rules in speaking will be of great help in listening as well. In addition, in order to practice speaking, reading something out is necessary. When doing the reading, I also get familiar with some set phrases which can be quickly identified in the next listening test.
